Yay for the nitrogen cycle!

We have finally come out the other side! Nitrite dropped out the bottom today, meaning the second colony of bacteria is finally well-established. Behold!

The nitrite is not totally zero, but it’s darn close. Ammonia doesn’t look like it’s totally zero either, to be honest, so a few days of watchful waiting to make sure all the bacteria is ready to go will happen before any livestock gets added. Hampton and I are going out of town for a few days, so I plan to bug the dog sitter to add ammonia each day to feed the bacteria and keep the tank stable.

If all goes well, in the next week I will finally get to add fish! Here’s a glorious FTS to celebrate:
